Background

In Indonesia in 2023 (preliminary data), the harvested area of rice in 2023 was about 10.20 million hectares and the production of dry unhusked rice (GKG) was 53.63 million tons. Rice production in 2023 was about 30.90 million tons in terms of rice.

Feedstock and products

Indonesia can produce up to 11 million tons of rice husk per year, equivalent to 1.7 - 2.2 million tons of silicon oxide (silica).

Our process allows us to produce precipitated silica from rice husk, which is demanded by many industries:

  • rubber and plastic grade
  • food, pharma and dental grade
  • Paint and ink grade
  • pesticide grade
  • micronised silica and etc.

It is also an excellent raw material for the production of silicon compounds such as silicon carbide, as well as for the production of pure silicon for solar cells and microelectronics.

Our solution

We have developed a highly cost-effective process to produce high-purity precipitated silica and its derivatives, such as silicon for solar cells, from rice husk.

Advantages of Rice Silica:

  • No costs for extraction and preparation of minerals
  • Rice husks disposal problem is being solved
  • Expected costs are inherently lower compared to mineral sourced products
  • The process is carbon neutral with zero emissions
